I need this update, so i can enable optional python support in systemd, because without this update systemd build (with enabled python support) fails with infinite recursion while doing xslt transformations using this lib.

This requires rebuild of a lot of packages!

Besides that, i would really need that meged, i want that systemd python logging module that is included in systemd package and woud be also nice for nixos modules using python packages where logging can be configured.

did you rebuild all packages that depend on docbook-xsl to check if everything is fine?

No, i should do that, but the only way i can think of is to give hydra to
build everything and this is really going to take a long time for me. Do
you have any idea how could i filter only packages that depend on this
package?

there is a wiki page on contributing that describes how to achieve that

Yes, but i want a way that i can test that with hydra. I will take time and
write nix expression file that filters relevant packages.

We should probably not merge this before the 13.10 release (any day now!) since I have no idea what the impact will be.

Can we test this now with hydra and see what breaks?

We could merge it to stdenv-updates. Besides, there is always the option of adding the new version in addition to the previous one and have only systemd pick up the new stylesheets for the time being.

Please don't put it in stdenv-updates, which is intended for (as the name indicates) updates to stdenv :-)

Unless there is some reason to think 1.78.1 will break lots of packages, I'm fine with updating it in master.
