The Perl bindings are a problem on some platforms (in particular Cygwin and cross-compiled environments), so it would be nice if there was a configure flag to disable building them.

However, the Perl bindings are now used all over the place (e.g. in download-using-manifests), so we'd need some fallback code to handle the absense of the bindings. For instance, functions such as isValidPath() and queryPathHash() can be emulated slowly by calling nix-store.

+1. I support all efforts to make nix-instantiate and nix-store have as few dependencies as possible, and as long as those core nix tools work the rest are less important IMO.

So far only drainFD sets the non-blocking flag on a "readable" file descriptor,
while this is a "writeable" file descriptor.
It's not clear to me yet, why we see logs after that point, but it's
also not that bad to handle EAGAIN in read/write functions after all.

So far only drainFD sets the non-blocking flag on a "readable" file descriptor,
while this is a "writeable" file descriptor.
It's not clear to me yet, why we see logs after that point, but it's
also not that bad to handle EAGAIN in read/write functions after all.

We now see exception beeing thrown when remote building in master
because of writing to a non-blocking file descriptor from our json logger.
