- Around line 2516-2525: Update _num_rows so the row-group branch assigns the
selected row count instead of returning immediately, then apply skip_rows and
nrows to that count through the shared limit logic. Preserve metadata.num_rows()
as the count when row_groups is unset.
- Line 1406: Clamp the reconstructed RangeIndex stop in _process_metadata to the
original stop from the file metadata when nrows exceeds available rows, while
still limiting results to nrows when it is smaller. Add a regression test
confirming that a six-row file with pandas RangeIndex metadata and nrows=10
returns six rows in both reader modes.

) Fixes NVIDIA#24523. `pd.read_parquet(..., columns=[])` returns `(0, 0)` with PyArrow < 26 and `(nrows, 0)` with PyArrow >= 26. `cudf.read_parquet` always returned `(0, 0)` for files whose index is not stored as a column (`index=False`, or a `RangeIndex` stored only in the pandas metadata). This matches the behavior of the installed PyArrow version: with PyArrow >= 26 and `columns=[]`, the row count is taken from the Parquet metadata (honoring `row_groups`, `skip_rows` and `nrows`) and used for the index. The result with PyArrow < 26 is unchanged. `filters` with `columns=[]` is unchanged. This also reverts NVIDIA#24520, removing the `pyarrow<26` pin, so CI exercises PyArrow 26. Tests: `test_parquet_columns_and_index_param` already compares against pandas and fails under PyArrow 26 without this change. The new `test_parquet_empty_columns_num_rows` covers multiple files, `row_groups`, `skip_rows`, `nrows` and the low-memory reader. - [x] I am familiar with the [Contributing Guidelines](https://github.com/NVIDIA/cudf/blob/HEAD/CONTRIBUTING.md). - [x] New or existing tests cover these changes. - [x] The documentation is up to date with these changes. --------- Co-authored-by: Tom Augspurger <toaugspurger@nvidia.com> (cherry picked from commit 3068f8a)

…ashCSR join memory and PyArrow 26 parquet fix (#24652) ## Description Backport of #24231, #24331, #24396, #24655 and #24663 to `hotfix/26.10.1`. 26.10.0 uses about 2.8x the memory of 26.08.1 to hold a `hash_join` and about 3.3x at peak while building it (10M unique bigint keys: 522.8 MB peak / 442.7 MB retained vs 160.0 MB for 26.08.1). #24231 and #24331 fix it on `main`. #24396 is needed with #24331: after #24331, HashCSR slot selection on hash-partitioned input collapses to a fraction of the table (#24395). It is cherry-picked without the `spark_hashing.cuh` hunk, since that file does not exist in 26.10. #24655 fixes the default stream check in `memcpy_batch_async`. #24663 makes `read_parquet(columns=[])` return PyArrow's row count under PyArrow 26, which fixes the PyArrow 26 wheel-test failures on this PR. It is cherry-picked without the removal of the `pyarrow<26` pin, which 26.10 never had. Description
Fixes #24523.
pd.read_parquet(..., columns=[])returns(0, 0)with PyArrow < 26 and(nrows, 0)with PyArrow >= 26.cudf.read_parquetalways returned(0, 0)for files whose index is not stored as a column (index=False, or aRangeIndexstored only in the pandas metadata). This matches the behavior of the installed PyArrow version: with PyArrow >= 26 and
columns=[], the row count is taken from the Parquet metadata (honoringrow_groups,skip_rowsandnrows) and used for the index. The result with PyArrow < 26 is unchanged.filterswithcolumns=[]is unchanged. This also reverts #24520, removing the
pyarrow<26pin, so CI exercises PyArrow 26.Tests:
test_parquet_columns_and_index_paramalready compares against pandas and fails under PyArrow 26 without this change. The newtest_parquet_empty_columns_num_rowscovers multiple files,row_groups,skip_rows,nrowsand the low-memory reader.Checklist
