Please remember to change these generic iterators back once we only support one storage type.
|
In this case, the iterators are not for the purpose of supporting multiple storage types. They only need to support one. I made them template parameters because, ultimately, the iterator type doesn't matter as long as it supports indexing, and pinning it to |

Basically, I'm following the same pattern as Thrust: let the caller pass any iterator type that is convenient for them. |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔴 Critical | 🏗️ Heavy liftPreserve host access for the CPU clustering path.
When
use_cpuis true,num_clustersuses the pinned resource, andgenerate_cluster_limitindexes its iterator on the CPU.cuda::device_buffergives that iterator thedevice_accessibleproperty, nothost_accessible, regardless of the selected resource. The same access conflict affects the other migrated pinned inputs and outputs. Use an iterator type that permits host and device access, or pass suitable raw pointers to the CPU path. Oh, Christ. This shouldn't work, but it does due to a bug in nvcc, which silently compiles the following erroneous code:
#include <cuda/buffer>
template <class It>
__host__ __device__ int read(It it) { return it[0]; }
int main()
{
int value = 42;
using It = cuda::device_buffer<int>::iterator;
return read(It{&value}) == 42 ? 0 : 1;
}Basically, nvcc's check to not call device functions from host functions (in this, case, operator[]) fails if both functions are templates.
It seems this bug was previously reported but never acknowledged:
It still "worked" because the memory happened to be pinned memory, but we should use pointers instead to indicate the intent. I'm changing it back to pointers.

I found some more instances of this bug already existing in cuDF. I've opened #24755 to fix them.
