[https://nvbugs/6813945][fix] Use stored metadata server URLs as is and support etcd credentials and signed server records - #21187
The shared URL helper preserves http:// and https:// schemes, removes trailing slashes, and adds http:// to bare server addresses. Request, health-check, and steady-clock URLs use this helper.
MetadataServerConfig adds etcd credentials, TLS paths, and record_auth_key. It validates credential pairs, client-certificate pairs, and CA requirements.
When record_auth_key is set, JsonDictionary signs records with HMAC-SHA256. It ignores records with missing, malformed, unreadable, or invalid signatures. Without the key, records remain unsigned and startup logs a warning. Etcd key listing is limited to the trtllm/ prefix. The README documents these settings and the etcd token-renewal limitation.
The supplied CI summary reports successful PR GitHub jobs and mixed L0 pipeline results, including a later successful pipeline. It does not establish the cause or resolution of earlier failures.
QA Engineer Review
tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_metadata_server.py covers signed and unsigned records, invalid-record handling, router filtering, config validation, etcd settings, URL forms, and request delivery. tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_steady_clock_sync.py covers steady-clock endpoint delivery for URL forms. The steady-clock test is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_a10.yml; no matching CI or manual-QA list entry was found for the metadata-server test. Test execution results are not independently verified. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up because the metadata-server test lacks a matching list entry and test execution results are not independently verified.

Description
Metadata-server service discovery (--metadata_server_config_file / -m), where context and generation servers register themselves in an etcd store and the disaggregated server reads the server list from it.
OpenAIHttpClient builds every request URL (completion requests, post_json, get_json and the readiness check) through one helper, _server_base_url. A server entry that already carries an http:// or https:// scheme is used as is; http:// is added only to a bare host:port.
MetadataServerConfig accepts optional etcd client settings: user and password, and ca_certwith optionalcert_keyandcert_cert. They are passed to the etcd client. A userwithoutpassword, or a cert_keywithoutcert_certorca_cert`, is rejected when the config is loaded.
MetadataServerConfig accepts an optional record_auth_key. When it is set, servers add an HMAC-SHA256 signature, bound to the record key, to the record they register, and readers ignore records whose signature is missing or does not match. When it is unset, records are read and written as before and a warning is logged at startup.
examples/disaggregated/README.md documents the new fields, when to set them and a complete metadata_config example.
Note: This PR changes the metadata-server mode (--metadata_server_config_file) only; the --disagg_cluster_uri etcd storage is not changed.
Test Coverage
New tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_metadata_server.py (CPU): signed and unsigned round trips; records that are unsigned, signed with another key, modified, copied under another key or not a dict are ignored when a key is set; the router lists only correctly signed records; config validation and the settings passed to the etcd client; _server_base_url for bare, http://, trailing-slash and https:// entries; send_request reaches a local server whether the server entry has a scheme or not.
tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_router.py and test_disagg_openai_client.py give the same results with and without this change.

…nd support etcd credentials and signed server records
Metadata-server service discovery (`--metadata_server_config_file` / `-m`), where
context and generation servers register themselves in an etcd store and the
disaggregated server reads the server list from it.
- `OpenAIHttpClient` builds every request URL (completion requests, `post_json`,
`get_json` and the readiness check) through one helper, `_server_base_url`. A
server entry that already carries an `http://` or `https://` scheme is used as
is; `http://` is added only to a bare `host:port`.
- `MetadataServerConfig` accepts optional etcd client settings: `user` and
`password`, and `ca_cert` with optional `cert_key` and `cert_cert`. They are
passed to the etcd client. A `user` without `password`, or a `cert_key`
without `cert_cert` or `ca_cert`, is rejected when the config is loaded.
- `MetadataServerConfig` accepts an optional `record_auth_key`. When it is set,
servers add an HMAC-SHA256 signature, bound to the record key, to the record
they register, and readers ignore records whose signature is missing or does
not match. When it is unset, records are read and written as before and a
warning is logged at startup.
- `examples/disaggregated/README.md` documents the new fields, when to set them
and a complete `metadata_config` example.
Tests:

the settings passed to the etcd client; `_server_base_url` for bare,
`http://`, trailing-slash and `https://` entries; `send_request` reaches a
local server whether the server entry has a scheme or not.
- `tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_router.py` and
`test_disagg_openai_client.py` give the same results with and without this
change.

…ble as written
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187 (P3): both metadata_config examples in
examples/disaggregated/README.md omitted the required `server_type: etcd` and
spelled `refresh_interval` as `refersh_interval`, so a file copied from them was
rejected by `MetadataServerConfig` when loaded. Both examples now carry
`server_type: etcd` and the field name the config class defines.

… and password
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187 (P2, item 1): with `user` and `password` set and
no TLS files, the pinned etcd client (etcd-sdk-python 0.0.7) authenticates at
start-up but attaches the token as gRPC call credentials, which gRPC accepts
only on a secure channel; the first key-value call then fails with
UNAUTHENTICATED and the server cannot register. `MetadataServerConfig` now
rejects `user`/`password` without `ca_cert` when the config is loaded, and the
README states that etcd authentication requires TLS.
Tests: `test_config_validation` covers the new rejection and the accepted
combination.

… is not well formed
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187 (P2, item 3): with `record_auth_key` set, a record
whose `signature` field held a string that cannot be UTF-8 encoded raised
UnicodeEncodeError from `JsonDictionary.get` instead of being ignored, and the
exception ended the router's server-list refresh for every record. The
signature is now checked for the form `_sign_record` produces (prefix, length,
hex digits) before it is compared; any other value counts as an invalid
signature, the record is skipped with a warning and the remaining records are
still read.
Tests: `test_malformed_signature_is_ignored` covers a missing, non-string,
empty, wrong-prefix, non-hex and non-encodable signature beside a valid record.

It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The change adds ETCD credentials, TLS settings, and optional metadata record signing. It validates the configuration and documents these options. It also normalizes HTTP and HTTPS URLs for client requests, readiness checks, and steady-clock requests, with tests for these behaviors.

Summary
Normalize server URLs and request paths tensorrt_llm/serve/openai_client.py, tensorrt_llm/serve/openai_disagg_server.py, tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_metadata_server.py, tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_steady_clock_sync.py
A shared helper preserves HTTP and HTTPS schemes, removes trailing slashes, and adds http:// when no scheme is present. Client requests, readiness checks, and steady-clock requests use the helper.
With frontend affinity enabled, requests to a metadata-server entry that ends in a slash, such as https://worker:8443/, fail before they are sent. Normalize the entry before affinity parsing and add a regression test before merging. The signed-record discovery concern has been fixed.

The supplied tests cover _server_base_url and _send_request, but they do not call post_json, get_json, or check_ready_for_servers. A regression in one of these paths could break auxiliary requests or health checks while the completion test still passes. Add focused tests in tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_metadata_server.py that capture the URL passed to each method, including a trailing-slash https:// server. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

From the disagg side this looks good. Metadata-mode request routing has been broken since #8714, which added a second http:// to the already-prefixed stored URL. _server_base_url fixes that without changing the URLs built for static or disagg-cluster servers. The HMAC record signing is sound: it is key-bound and constant-time, and when a key is set it never falls back to accepting unsigned records. Nothing blocking from me. I'd like to see blossom-ci pass on the latest head before merge. I left three non-blocking suggestions inline; they're fine for this PR or a follow-up.
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: with `record_auth_key` set, `JsonDictionary.get`
now treats a value that is not valid UTF-8 or not valid JSON like a record with
an invalid signature. It logs a warning and returns None, so the remaining
records are still listed. Without `record_auth_key` the behavior is unchanged.
Tests: unreadable values beside a signed record, through the store and through
the router's server listing; the unsigned store still raises on them.

Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: `EtcdDictionary.keys()` now reads only the keys
under `trtllm/` (`get_prefix` with `keys_only=True`) instead of the whole
keyspace, so an etcd user whose role covers just that prefix can list the
registered servers. The README states the permission the etcd user needs.
Tests: `keys()` issues one prefix read, returns the unique `trtllm/<id>` keys
and does not read the whole keyspace.

…ewed
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: the README now states that the etcd client logs
in once, when the server starts, and does not renew its token. After ETCD stops
accepting the token, for example following an ETCD restart, the context,
generation and disaggregated servers are restarted so that they log in again.

…e steady clock handshake
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: `OpenAIDisaggServer._sync_server_clock` built the
`/steady_clock_offset` URL with its own scheme check, which only recognized
`http://`. It now uses `_server_base_url`, like the other request URLs, so a
server entry with `https://` or a trailing slash is dialed as is.
Tests: `test_server_entry_forms_reach_the_endpoint` runs the handshake with a
bare, an `http://` and an `http://` entry with a trailing slash and checks the
requested path.

…BaseModel
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: `MetadataServerConfig` is now a Pydantic model
derived from `StrictBaseModel`, with a description for every field and a model
validator for the credential and TLS combinations. Unknown fields, such as a
misspelled `refresh_interval`, are rejected when the file is loaded, and the
string fields are type checked. `password` and `record_auth_key` are left out of
`repr`, and validation errors do not include field values.
`record_auth_key` uses the same constrained string type as
`internal_request_auth_key`, so `validate_metadata_record_auth_key` is removed.
Tests: unknown fields, secrets absent from `repr` and errors, and loading the
config from a YAML file.

…nd the test server to a free port
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: `test_send_request_reaches_server_url` now uses a
fixture that swaps in empty collector mappings of the prometheus registry and
restores the original ones when the test ends, instead of clearing them for the
rest of the session. The test server binds to port 0 and the test reads the
assigned port from the runner, so no port is reserved ahead of time.

…et_json and the readiness check
Review feedback on PR NVIDIA#21187: a recording stand-in for the aiohttp session
checks the URL that `OpenAIHttpClient.get_json`, `post_json` and
`check_ready_for_servers` request for a bare `host:port`, an `http://` entry and
an `https://` entry with a trailing slash.
Signed-off-by: berryz <berryz@nvidia.com>
The sync test covers only bare and http:// server entries. Nothing exercises an https:// entry through _sync_server_clock, so a revert to the old prefixing logic at this call site would not fail the test suite.
Add an https:// case to test_server_entry_forms_reach_the_endpoint in tests/unittest/disaggregated/test_steady_clock_sync.py. Use a recording session to capture the URL passed to the request, and assert that it equals https://<host>:<port>/steady_clock_offset. A TLS server is not needed for this assertion.
