The regenerated schemas match llm_args.py (stage_through_host is already False there), so the JSON changes and the unwaive look right. Two things to address before merge:
The hook doesn't prevent the failure behind https://nvbugs/6971880. That failure came from the automated version bump changing tensorrt_llm/version.py without regenerating the schemas. A pre-commit hook doesn't run in that bump flow, and this PR skips it in both GitHub Actions and Jenkins Release-Check, so the next rcN bump will make test_checked_in_schemas_are_current go red again. Options that close the gap: have the release bump job run scripts/generate_trtllm_serve_schemas.py, or drop $id/title from the --check comparison and only stamp the version when publishing. Either one also makes most of the hook unnecessary.
Scope and description. The title covers a schema refresh, but half the diff is new pre-commit/CI infrastructure (hook, two CI skips, AGENTS.md). Please fill in the Description/Test Coverage sections, or split the hook into its own PR. Also, the auto-generated summary says users "must enable host staging explicitly". That reads like a behavior change, but the runtime default was already False; this PR only syncs the schema to it. Please correct that so release-note readers don't get the wrong idea.

tensorrt_llm/.*\.py means almost every Python commit runs a full import tensorrt_llm (compiled bindings included) through language: system. Anyone committing from a checkout without a matching build (laptop, a stale build after a rebase, a docs-only Python edit) gets an ImportError here instead of a staleness message, and has to learn SKIP=trtllm-serve-schemas-check. Consider one of:
stages: [manual](opt-in), leaving enforcement to the CPU test that already gates this;- having
--checkexit 0 with a clear notice whentensorrt_llmcan't be imported, so the hook only fails on real staleness; - narrowing
filestollm_args.py,disagg_utils.py,visual_gen/args.py, and the generator, accepting that some nested configs won't be covered.

I understand the goal is to catch stale schemas earlier, but this hook blocks local commits without a matching build while both GitHub and Jenkins CI pre-commit checks skip it. Could we make it opt-in, rely on the unwaived CPU test for gating, and clarify when/where to regenerate schemas in AGENTS.md?
Version bump has a separate fix in #20839.

Making it opt-in defeats the purpose of catching it earlier than CI tests. Then we wouldn't need the hook at all.
Is there any way how this could work without a full build?

Run the serving schema generator in check mode when package Python, schema snapshots, generator tests, or dependencies change. Use the active Python environment and module invocation so generation uses configuration types from the checkout and its matching TensorRT-LLM build. Document the hook and its build requirement in the contributor guidance. Signed-off-by: Robin Kobus <19427718+Funatiq@users.noreply.github.com>
The GitHub Actions pre-commit runner has Python but no TensorRT-LLM build or runtime dependencies. Schema generation fails first on Pydantic and also requires PyTorch and compiled TensorRT-LLM bindings, so installing Pydantic alone cannot make this job run the check. Set SKIP for the serving schema hook only in the lightweight workflow. Keep the hook enabled in development environments and document that the existing CPU schema test also checks snapshot freshness. Signed-off-by: Robin Kobus <19427718+Funatiq@users.noreply.github.com>
The golang Release-Check pod has no TensorRT-LLM build, so the serve schema hook cannot import the package when pre-commit checks schema-related files. Set SKIP on the shared release_check.py invocation for both changed-file and all-file checks. CPU schema tests continue to enforce snapshot freshness in CI. Replace the package-wide Python match with explicit serving, LLM, disaggregated, VisualGen, and nested configuration sources plus the package version. Retain the generator, schema test, and JSON snapshots, and remove broad packaging and dependency triggers. Unrelated Python changes no longer import compiled TensorRT-LLM bindings during pre-commit. Document that new schema configuration modules must be added to the trigger list; the schema unit tests remain the full freshness check in build environments. Dev Engineer Review
The serving schemas update their
$idand title from1.4.0rc1to1.4.0rc2. They setMooncakeStoreConfig.stage_through_hosttofalseand clarify host-staging behavior and thecapacityrole. Users who need host staging must enable it explicitly. The visual-generation schema changes only its version metadata. The pre-commit configuration adds a serving-schema freshness hook with explicit input triggers. The GitHub Actions pre-commit job and Jenkins Release-Check skip this hook.
AGENTS.mddocuments the hook and its environment requirements. No test result for the current change is established by the supplied evidence.QA Engineer Review
tests/integration/test_lists/waives.txtremoves the waiver fortest_checked_in_schemas_are_current. The test is intests/unittest/llmapi/test_trtllm_serve_config_schemas.py, which is listed intests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml. Existing tests cover deterministic generation, checked-in schema freshness, and detection of missing, modified, or version-mismatched snapshots without writing changes. Coverage verdict: sufficient for schema freshness; execution results for this change are unavailable.Per-File QA Perspective
