The selected Gemma3 tests already assert causal, sliding-window, vision-blob, and packed mask values. The selected Gemma4 tests also assert bidirectional image attention and prefix/window behavior.
The remaining uncovered branches are Gemma4 modality IDs:
_write_masktreats IDs1and2as vision, while ID3remains causal. Add a small test intests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_gemma4.pythat callsmodel.get_context_maskwith adjacent image, video, and audio runs, then compares the complete expected mask. Use a window shorter than the vision run to cover both blob grouping and window behavior.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Description
Long Gemma3/Gemma4 multimodal prefills can OOM while constructing a dense attention mask because the existing implementation materializes several quadratic intermediate tensors and copies per-request masks into a packed batch buffer. Construct the packed boolean mask directly with a shared Triton kernel, using only linear-sized vision-blob metadata in addition to the final output.
Preserve causal/sliding-window attention, same-blob vision bidirectionality, Gemma4 cached-prefix handling, audio causality, and the existing model-specific gating. The final dense mask still requires Q*(P+Q) bytes per request.
On one B200, warmed mask-construction peak allocated memory (including the output, window 1024, one request with no cached prefix) was:
With an artificial 1.5 GiB PyTorch allocator budget, 32K Gemma4 mask construction OOMs before this change and succeeds afterward. These are isolated mask-construction measurements, not end-to-end serving memory claims.
Under the same B200 conditions, warmed mask-construction latency (median of five CUDA-event measurements) was:
These measurements time only mask construction, using separate baseline/candidate processes with each exact shape warmed up before measurement (window 1024, one request, no cached prefix). They exclude first-use compilation and are not end-to-end inference speedups; TTFT and serving-throughput improvements have not been measured.
Test Coverage
tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_gemma4.py::test_gemma_attention_mask_peak. It runs in the existing Gemma4 B200 test entry; no new test-list entry, stage, or platform is added. The test guards against a second quadratic allocation using a ~36 MiB packed output, without loading model weights. Existing Gemma model tests continue to cover mask semantics.tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_gemma3.py::TestGemma3::test_gemma3_allclose_to_hf[backend:flashinfer_config:1b]and...::test_gemma3_allclose_to_hf[backend:flashinfer_config:27b]: passed with reduced-layer random-weight models. Their image_token_mask was all false, so these tests alone did not validate real-image behavior; the pretrained comparisons below provide that coverage.git diff --check: passed.Pretrained model-output parity (2026-10-19)
Validated the PR files at commit
04391ea4efeeb011b49ef61492d1cafc92b6778fon one NVIDIA B200 using BF16 and the FLASHINFER attention backend (PyTorch 2.14.0a0+4fdf77b940.nv26.8.63802676, Transformers 5.5.4, FlashInfer 0.6.18).Validation scope: this establishes original-versus-optimized model-output parity for the tested cases, not a task-accuracy benchmark or end-to-end multimodal serving result. The available native artifacts were incompatible with current main (
PoolRebalanceConfigmissing), so the test used compatible source base9ae867c757218b65f6161b162f56a2482ffde40doverlaid with the current PR's four changed files, whose SHA256 hashes were verified. It does not establish current-main full-stack compatibility. The reused native build also lacks SM100 FMHA kernels for the default TRTLLM-backend Gemma3 sanity test; these successful model comparisons use FLASHINFER.PR Checklist
