Dev Engineer Review

The diff contains formatting-only changes. It replaces redundant f-strings with string literals in setup.py and reformats imports in modeling_mistral.py. No runtime behavior or API changes are evident.

QA Engineer Review

No test changes.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • cpp/kernels/fmha_v2/setup.py: Two generated preprocessor directive strings now use ordinary string literals. Verify generated headers remain unchanged.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/models/modeling_mistral.py: Imports were reformatted without apparent changes to imported names. No behavior change is evident to verify.

Description

Forward-port of #19788 (merged to release/1.3) to main, cherry-picked from 48c796c. Mistral Large 3 multimodal inference fails at executor init on main because MistralNativeInputProcessor lacks the MM-encoder item-scheduling contract that Mistral3VLM advertises, and the ViT's head-size-104 packed-QKV attention has no padding-mask FMHA kernel on Blackwell. The native and Hugging Face Pixtral processors now share the scheduling contract, native image geometry is preserved when batching unequal sizes, and head-size-104 padding-mask kernels are generated and dispatched on SM90, SM100 and SM120 (SM100 limited to matching FP16/BF16 inputs with FULL/CAUSAL masks). This removes the main waiver for TestMistralLarge3_675B::test_nvfp4_4gpus[latency_moe_trtllm].

The patch applies unchanged apart from tests/integration/test_lists/waives.txt, where only the 6665906 waiver is dropped and the unrelated waivers added on main are kept.

Test Coverage

The same tests as the release PR: tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_mistral.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_fmha_v2_head_size_coverage.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_pixtral_head104_attention.py, and the fmhaHead104Test gtest on the B200, GB202 and RTX PRO 6000 lists. The unwaived four-GPU accuracy/test_llm_api_pytorch_multimodal.py::TestMistralLarge3_675B::test_nvfp4_4gpus[latency_moe_trtllm] is the gate for this PR; it passes on release/1.3 PR CI (builds #146, #164 and #165) and scored 53.111% on MMMU (threshold 43.123%) in the earlier four-B200 run. None of this has been re-run on main.

Walkthrough

The changes add FMHA v2 kernel selection and dispatcher routing for qualifying packed-QKV head-size-104 attention. They also add C++ and Python coverage, share Pixtral encoder behavior across Mistral input processors, and remove an integration test waiver.

Changes

FMHA head-size-104 attention

Layer / File(s) Summary
Kernel selection and backend routing
cpp/kernels/fmha_v2/setup.py, cpp/tensorrt_llm/kernels/fmhaDispatcher.cpp
FMHA v2 kernel selection and dispatcher routing now cover the specified packed-QKV head-size-104 configurations.
CUDA kernel validation
cpp/tests/unit_tests/kernels/CMakeLists.txt, cpp/tests/unit_tests/kernels/fmhaHead104Test.cpp
A CUDA test target runs packed-QKV head-size-104 cases against a CPU attention reference.
Generated kernel-spec coverage
tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_fmha_v2_head_size_coverage.py
CPU-only tests check padding-mask selection for supported and excluded head-size-104 kernel configurations.
GPU tests and integration registration
tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_pixtral_head104_attention.py, tests/integration/defs/cpp/conftest.py, tests/integration/defs/cpp/test_unit_tests.py, tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/*
GPU tests compare attention output with FP32 SDPA. Integration fixtures build and run the C++ test, and test lists register the C++ and Python tests.

Mistral input processor contract

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared Pixtral encoder contract
tensorrt_llm/_torch/models/modeling_mistral.py
The HF and native processors share Pixtral encoder metadata and profiling behavior. The native processor batches image tensors while preserving original image sizes. Text-only checkpoints receive neutral encoder results, and dummy multimodal data generation raises NotImplementedError.
Processor behavior tests
tests/unittest/_torch/modeling/test_modeling_mistral.py
Tests cover native image batching, shared processor metadata, dummy image data, and native text-only checkpoints.

Integration test selection

Layer / File(s) Summary
Remove integration test waiver
tests/integration/test_lists/waives.txt
The skip-list entry for the Mistral Large 3 NVFP4 latency test is removed.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to b9b15

This change adds head-size-104 attention kernels and shares the Pixtral scheduling contract across the Mistral processors. No concrete defect that should block merging was found. The B200 list does not run the Python head-104 test, so confirm whether that coverage is intended.

Add the Pixtral head-104 test to the B200 PyTorch list if B200 coverage is required.

The B200 pre-merge list runs only the C++ SM100 test. The Python test also supports SM100 and checks the Python dispatcher and workspace bound. Add it to the PyTorch tests if this behavior must gate B200 changes. Otherwise, confirm that B200 execution is intentionally limited to QA or local testing.

PR effort6 points — Restores attention support for an existing model. Review requires reconciling generation and dispatch predicates across three GPU architectures, layouts, masks and accumulation modes, then assessing ragged numerical and workspace tests. Existing kernels are reused, but the support matrix and incomplete integration evidence warrant substantial attention review.
ImportanceImportant — The generator and dispatcher change hardware-sensitive kernel availability and selection for head-104 attention. Incorrect architecture, precision or mask predicates could cause unsupported dispatch or expensive fallback; the Python regression explicitly checks numerical correctness and workspace size.
