The Edge browser doesn't have a functionallity to submit plugins to windows store yet, but you can run them manually. Below are instructions how to do that.
- On the very github page your are now on click 'clone or download' and 'download zip'. Extract zip folder somewhere you can remember if at all possible.
- Input address about:flags into your edge browser address bar and choose Enable extension developer features. After you're done you will have to restart the browser.
- Navigate to options of your Edge browser (...) click Extensions then Load extension and select the folder where you have saved the previously downloaded unzipped file. After that restart the browser again.
- When you restart the browser a warning may occour at the bottom of the browser warning you that you are using unofficial extension. Just click 'Turn on anyway' and you're good to go.
This plugin is pretty straightforward, it allows you to search highlighted text from the context menu of your browser using four search engines, i.e.
- Bing
- Yahoo
- Wikipedia
Note: All search engines are set to English language.
This plugin is essentially a fork of my chrome plugin. Only things changed are those scaffolded by MS Edge Extension Toolkit and some minor changes I made to replace unsupported APIs (e.g. I had to replace chrome.storage.sync with local storage and other minor tweaks).
- Highlight the text you want to search then right click it to bring up the context menu and choose 'Search selected with...'
- To change the search engine, choose options (...) then select search engine and click submit button. Close the options windows if you want (it's not necessary) and you're ready to use selected search engine.
All code, unless otherwise stated in code comments was written by me.
Do whatever you want with it, but in the unlikely case that your computer explodes into a mushroom cloud I take no responibility.
