The version lives in five files that nothing ties together, and check-version.sh only detects drift once a release build is already running. The bump script writes all five in one motion and ends by running the check, so a release starts from agreement instead of hoping for it.
The linux.1 AppImage ships a libwayland-client that breaks EGL on hosts with a newer Mesa; the repack fix landed in 4b0a12c and this release carries it. The deb and rpm were unaffected, but move with the AppImage rather than splitting the version across artifacts.
