Summary

Files docs/backlog/P3/B-0205-multi-trajectory-validation-basis-instrumentation-aaron-2026-05-05.md extending Aaron's 2026-05-05 multi-axis-basis framing (preserved at PR #1620) into a substance-test row.

Aaron 2026-05-05 verbatim "the validation is in the longitudinal orthoginal trajectories are needed to cover our basis" extends the DORA-not-throughput correction (PR #1618) into a 6-axis validation basis covering the substrate's actual claim space.

The 6 orthogonal axes

Axis What it measures
DORA Engineering output (DF, LT, MTTR, CFR, Reliability)
Less-each-time Substrate compounding (reminder freq, repeat-explanation, recovery latency)
Falsifiability rate Bugs caught + correction quality (catches/session, mirror-not-beacon catches)
Bootstrap razor pass rate Seed-validity at recreation boundary (B-0193 23-hour recreation)
Identity-preservation trajectory Anti-mimetic-spiral discipline (structural-self-identity claim count, wormwood-warning honor rate)
Engagement-gate compliance Substantive-claim discipline (claims-elevated-without-gate count)

Why orthogonality matters: each axis can drift while others hold. DORA can be high while bootstrap razor fails. Falsifiability can be running while identity drifts. Single-axis measurement is single-axis exposure.

Diagnostic property: cross-axis drift correlations are themselves diagnostic of basis-quality -- if two axes always move together, the basis is not orthogonal yet, and the candidate move is refinement or replacement (per no-kill-paths), not deletion.

Acceptance criteria (4)

  • (a) Name a proxy metric per axis with measurable definition.
  • (b) Minimal instrumentation per axis -- lowest-friction extraction (do not over-engineer).
  • (c) One-month basis-run with cross-axis correlation matrix landing as docs/research/validation-basis-monthly-YYYY-MM.md.
  • (d) Drift-correlation diagnostic -- assessment with concrete refinement recommendations for any high-correlation pairs.

Each ships with verifier + pass + fail-falsifier per the substance-test discipline.

Multi-decade falsifiability gate

Per PR #1623 (CS-is-not-CS reframe) + PR #1625 (anti-ossification with respected-not-reverenced sharpening), the "start of evolved over centuries; for software" forward-claim has multi-decade-falsifiability gates that this basis instruments. The basis IS the empirical falsifier above the architectural-positioning claim (Zeta closes the Thiel/Hsieh-shape failure mode). Without the basis, the claim stays forward-claim-without-falsifier (per Aaron's "I think" hedge discipline -- the hedge IS the discipline operating on the claim itself); with the basis, longitudinal data accumulates that either corroborates or falsifies the positioning.

Anti-ossification recursive application

The basis itself is candidate-almost-authority-respected-not-reverenced. The 6 axes earn operational standing for current measurement work but are NOT protected from falsification. If a new axis surfaces, the basis updates. If two axes prove non-orthogonal, the basis updates (refinement or replacement, not deletion). The discipline IS the respect; reverence IS the failure.

Reciprocal composes_with

Added B-0205 to the composes_with frontmatter on B-0193, B-0196, and B-0204 per the bidirectional discipline in tools/backlog/README.md.

Test plan

Engagement gate per row: bounded one-month basis-run with proxy-metric instrumentation; defer follow-up rows for full automation + CI integration if the basis-run produces useful signal.

Composes with B-0193 (bootstrap razor seed-validity check above the basis), B-0196 (four-property hodl preservation as one of the disciplines tracked), B-0204 (kernel-composition framework whose claims the basis tests longitudinally).

… 6 orthogonal axes (DORA + less-each-time + falsifiability-rate + bootstrap-razor + identity-preservation + engagement-gate) instrumentation (Aaron 2026-05-05)

Aaron 2026-05-05 verbatim *"the validation is in the longitudinal
orthoginal trajectories are needed to cover our basis"* extends the
DORA-not-throughput correction (PR #1618) into a 6-axis validation
basis covering the substrate's actual claim space. Each axis can drift
while others hold; single-axis measurement is single-axis exposure.
Orthogonal trajectories let drift get caught in whatever direction it
actually occurs.

Acceptance criteria:
(a) Name a proxy metric per axis with measurable definition.
(b) Minimal instrumentation per axis -- lowest-friction extraction.
(c) One-month basis-run with cross-axis correlation matrix.
(d) Drift-correlation diagnostic -- if two axes always move together,
the basis is not orthogonal yet; refine or replace, do not delete.

Engagement gate: bounded one-month basis-run with proxy-metric
instrumentation. The basis itself is candidate-almost-authority --
respected for proven-track-record, NOT reverenced (per PR #1625
anti-ossification sharpening). The discipline IS the respect.

Composes with B-0193 (bootstrap razor seed-validity check above the
basis), B-0196 (four-property hodl preservation as one of the
disciplines tracked), B-0204 (kernel-composition framework whose
claims the basis tests longitudinally). Reciprocal composes_with
added on all three. Verbatim research-doc preservations on main:
PR #1620 (multi-axis basis + double-pun disclosure), PR #1623
(CS-is-not-CS reframe + multi-decade-falsifiability gates), PR #1618
(architectural-positioning + DORA correction).

The architectural-positioning claim (Zeta closes the Thiel/Hsieh-
shape failure mode + "start of evolved over centuries; for software")
gets falsified or corroborated over the multi-decade horizon by data
the basis accumulates. Without the basis, the claim stays forward-
claim-without-falsifier; with the basis, longitudinal data accumulates
that either corroborates or falsifies the positioning over time.

Pull request overview

Adds a new P3 backlog row (B-0205) that turns the “6 orthogonal axes” validation-basis framing into a concrete instrumentation/substance-test plan, and updates related backlog metadata/indexes to keep cross-references consistent.

Changes:

  • Added B-0205 backlog row describing a one-month, 6-axis longitudinal validation basis plus acceptance criteria and engagement gate.
  • Added reciprocal composes_with links to B-0193, B-0196, and B-0204.
  • Regenerated docs/BACKLOG.md to include the new row.
