Hey @ii64! Yeah this is great, I especially like the addition of an error return value. I think going forwards an implementation with generics makes way more sense than the current APIs so I'd be happy to merge into master and tag it as v2. |

Hi, Go 1.18 supports type parameter✨ that can be used to reduce the usage of
interface{}/anyand type casting, i wonder if we can support this feature soon as 1.18 release on Feb 2022, Thanks :)
