We had a discussion about GMAO MOM6 version last week, so this is timely. How frequently does the MOM version get updated for you?

Our understanding is that only very simple MOM (geometry, regridding, init etc.) modules are used in SOCA and since, typically, those won't change there is nothing changing internally for SOCA? This PR adds more cmake commands but they are only for external MOM build to succeed, correct?

Not sure exactly. A few times/year.

Successfully build GDASApp develop at 0085a19 inside g-w branch feature/191 at c6d2871 on WCOSS2 (Cactus) using feature/mom6-f9e6e2e at 1cb2f32 to populate gdas.cd/sorc/soca.
