Summary

This PR updates documentation to emphasize that HolmesGPT is infrastructure-agnostic and works with any observability stack, not just Kubernetes. The changes remove the Kubernetes prerequisite requirement and provide examples for non-Kubernetes environments.

Key Changes

  • Removed Kubernetes as a prerequisite - Deleted the "kubectl access to a Kubernetes cluster" requirement from the walkthrough prerequisites
  • Added environment-specific quickstarts - Restructured the "Run Your First Investigation" section with tabs for "Any Environment (No K8s Needed)" and "Kubernetes" to show both paths
  • Expanded non-Kubernetes examples - Added concrete examples of using HolmesGPT with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, and databases without Kubernetes
  • Updated README - Clarified that HolmesGPT works with "any stack — Kubernetes, VMs, cloud providers, databases, and SaaS platforms"
  • Updated feature descriptions - Changed "Operator mode" description to emphasize it's optional, and added "No Kubernetes required" as a key feature
  • Clarified data source flexibility - Updated recommended setup documentation to explain that Kubernetes toolsets are automatic but not required, and that Holmes works equally well with other data sources

Notable Details

  • The Kubernetes example is now presented as one option among many, not the primary path
  • Installation guide now includes an info box explaining that Kubernetes is optional
  • All references to Kubernetes-specific workflows have been contextualized as examples rather than requirements
  • The messaging now positions HolmesGPT as a general-purpose SRE agent rather than a Kubernetes-focused tool

Multiple users have reported confusion that HolmesGPT appears to be
Kubernetes-only. This was caused by every first touchpoint reinforcing
that impression: the title said "CNCF", every quickstart example used
kubectl, the walkthrough required a K8s cluster, and the recommended
setup framed K8s as the default base layer.

Changes:
- README: Change title from "The CNCF SRE Agent" to "Open-Source SRE Agent"
- README: Add "Works with any stack" to description, add "No K8s required" bullet
- Walkthrough: Remove K8s as a hard prerequisite, add non-K8s quickstart tab
- CLI installation: Add "No Kubernetes Required" callout with non-K8s examples,
remove duplicated kubectl apply steps from every provider tab
- Recommended setup: Reframe from "K8s is automatic, rest is optional" to
  "works with any infrastructure"
- Docs landing: Update tagline to mention all infrastructure types

Keep "The CNCF SRE Agent" title — CNCF branding is important validation.
Restore the kubectl apply steps in each provider tab so the guided demo
works end-to-end. The "No Kubernetes Required" callout box above the
tabs still directs non-K8s users to skip this and use their own systems.

Walkthrough

Documentation update repositioning HolmesGPT from Kubernetes-centric to infrastructure-agnostic messaging. Updates across README, installation guides, and walkthroughs emphasize compatibility with any stack (Kubernetes, VMs, cloud, databases) while optionally supporting Kubernetes operator deployment. Simplifies walkthrough examples and removes Kubernetes prerequisites.

…onal messaging

Keep "Holmes works across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments"
sentence. Still clarify that Kubernetes is not required.

Use 'tell me something surprising about my environment' as the first
experience — works with any stack, no Kubernetes required, and
immediately demonstrates Holmes's ability to discover and use whatever
data sources are available.
