I initially questioned if we even want to include these types of badges. Then I looked into it, and it seems other scientific packages do, like pandas, numpy, and xarray. So I think it makes sense to follow suit 😄

My thought was that if you can 'quantify' how much people are using/downloading your package, you can better allocate resources based on demand, as in if we have 60k downloads a month on Mikeio and 1k on modelskill, maybe we should focus on fixing the bugs of mikeio first and modelskill later, or the other way around.

Good thought, although one should take these stats with a grain of salt. I think there's definitely other valid reasons to prioritize resources aside from installs, but useful to be aware of I agree.
