📝 Info: unwrap_or_default preserves the media-type refusal

When strip_prefix("image/") fails, the old let-else returned false; the new unwrap_or_default() gives an empty subtype that fails !subtype.is_empty(), so the result is the same. The scanner only yields data:image/ candidates, so the strip never actually fails.

🟡 Comment wrongly calls a required guard redundant

The comment claims every candidate j in i..k is still unassigned, so membership reduces to the threshold. It is false: a cluster spanning topics above i leaves an assigned j in range, and the assignments[j].is_none() filter at consensus.rs is required. The added spanning_cluster_forces_rescan_over_assigned_topics test proves it. The comment can mislead someone into dropping that guard.

// Candidates below i are already finalized, but an earlier
// spanning cluster can leave a j > i already assigned, so the
// is_none() filter below is required, not redundant.

📝 Info: Consensus singleton guards removed are always-true

The dropped conditions !members.is_empty() and co_count[i][i]/n >= consensus_threshold both always hold: members always contains i, and co_count[i][i] equals n_replicates (accumulated once per replicate at consensus.rs), so the ratio is 1.0 and clears any threshold validated into [0,1]. The new adjacency.contains_key(&i) gate is behavior-equivalent.

📝 Info: Signum-product sign match is equivalent to old check

f64::signum returns only 1.0, -1.0, or NaN, never 0.0, so the old full_sign != 0.0 guard only excluded NaN. The new product > 0.0 also excludes NaN and maps every sign combination identically, leaving stability counts unchanged.
