Character Recognition is a good topic but the time is too tight. It will be better if it can have more detailed link about the basic concept of neural network. I really recommend http://neuralnetworksanddeeplearning.com/, which teaches us how to implement a hand-written recognition project step-by-step. It really helps me when I build up my own project.
