revert: AgentBatch (#160, #161) — keep it on the agent-batch branch

Reverts #160 and #161 on main for now. The AgentBatch work is preserved unchanged on the agent-batch branch (head 3f36b9f, the state of main before this revert) so it can be picked up again later.

After this merge, main's tree is byte-identical to e89f34e (the last commit before #160): git diff e89f34e <this branch> is empty. No new code, only the two git revert commits.
