Came to this code example from here: TypeStrong/ts-node#782

This appears to work only because you have not defined the types in your request handler. This actually fails if you do:

import { Request, Response, NextFunction } from 'express';

const weirdMiddleware = (req: Request, res: Response, next: NextFunction) => {
  req.boo = 'boo';
  next();
};

Also based on referenced ticket, this would be the recommended call to ts-node:

ts-node --files index.ts
