In future-proof.md and note-format.md it says that zk should only rely on simple plain text formats and that currently only Markdown is supported but more might be added later.
What do you think of the idea of adding Typst support? It's less heavyweight than latex but has more capabilities than markdown and the format specifications as well as the Typst compiler are open source. I think it's a good typesetting system for (technical) notes and similar enough to markdown that adding support for it might not be that hard (at least I hope, I am not qualified to judge this whatsoever). Although Typst is young, I think the important claim of zk being future proof is not burdened by adding support for this because I'm confident people will keep it alive as the open source typesetting it is even when the company behind it is using it for their proprietary online product.
