What happened?

"I'm experiencing a persistent issue with the Zen application on my Ubuntu 24.10 system (Gnome 47). Every time I attempt to open a new Zen window by right-clicking its icon in the dock and choosing 'open a new window', my cursor becomes a spinning wheel, indicating that the system is busy. This delay typically lasts around a minute before the Zen application finally launches. Given this unusual behavior, I suspect there might be a bug within the application itself or perhaps a compatibility issue with my system. For your reference, I installed Zen 1.0.1-a.19 using Flatpak."

I found related issues that might be helpful:

  • Zen hangs on startup #2986
This issue was resolved by deleting a problematic profile. The user found that profiles were located in the .zen directory and edited the profiles.ini file to change the profile. Deleting the problematic "Arik" profile fixed the issue.

  • Start up is extremely slow #1152
This issue was caused by Windows Defender throttling Zen. The suggested solution was to add an exception for Zen in Windows Defender to resolve the slow startup issue.

  • Zen flatpak does not launch outside of command line #188
The issue was resolved in version 1.0.0-a.15, which fixed the problem of Zen not launching outside of the command line.

I am also having this issue, Ubuntu 24.10 with Flatpak install. Firefox does not have the same issue.

@mr-cheff, the user Jan-DT has indicated that they are still experiencing the issue on Ubuntu 24.10 with a Flatpak install. Could you please assist them with this?
