Equality bench is composite

The current benchmark for equality testing runs about 256 tests. This is OK for comparison, but gives a highly inflated view of how long an equality test takes. Not sure what the best fix is, but I suspect it's to do something more sophisticated with the code wrapping the benchmark. Low priority.
