Since APIM 4.0 we opted to store the API artifacts in the DB. Thereafter the requirement for NFS is only limited to if there are secondary user stores in use or when multi-tenancy is in use. It is better to clearly qualify that requirement in the documentation under Artifact Synchronization. In the current documentation, it is not explicitly mentioned and there have been confusion a,ongst the SAs as well as customers as a result of this.
