🐛 Describe the bug

How can I load a model using bitsandbytes quantization in 8-bit format? I'm currently loading the model with the following code:

model_id = "path/to/model"
llm = LLM(model=model_id, dtype=torch.bfloat16, trust_remote_code=True,
quantization="bitsandbytes", load_format="bitsandbytes")

This loads the model in 4-bit format, but I can't figure out how to load it in 8-bit. What should I change to load the model in 8-bit instead?

What is the error you see? It should be supported as of #7445

I think they are trying to do inflight quantisation. The docs only mention inflight quantisation in 4-bit.

The bitsandbytes tests also indicate that we only support 4-bit inflight quantisation.

Perhaps we need to expand load_format to have bitsandbytes-8-bit and bitsandbytes-4-bit?

@hmellor do you know if this is supported now? It was also mentioned in #8720

I'm not currently aware of any changes (the docs haven't changed either).

The issue you linked appears to be from the same author with duplicated content.

Same question, there is many q4 models, but no q8_0 models (llama 3.3 for example) for use with vllm, and bitsandbytes uses q4, is there any way to load llama 3.3 70b in q8_0 in vllm ?
