+You will need to first create one more column in karma for the URI of the start date (and end date). You do that by using the PyTransform command from the drop down menu on each column. Give a name to the new column, like date_uri or something and then in the window type in: return "http://vivo.northwestern.edu/individual/" + getValue(“date_hired”). Note that you need to change the url to your own namespace. Once you generate that new column you need to assign semantic type and that will be: uri of vivo:DateTimeValue1
+Then you assign the following semantic types for the date_hired:
+vivo:dateTime of vivo:DateTimeValue1
+After that you need you need to click  on DateTimeValue1 (that is going to appear), and selected "Add Outgoing Literal". Then enter
+http://vivoweb.org/ontology/core#yearPrecision
+ as the Literal and select dateTimePrecision as the property.
+The only thing left is then to connect it to the person position.

+There is a class called vivo:FundingOrganization. Are any of the AwardingOrgs already in VIVO? If not, it will be easiest to map every AwardingOrg to the vivo:FundingOrganization class. It’s probably preferable to assign the orgs more descriptive classes, e.g. vivo:GovernmentAgency or vivo:Foundation, in addition to or instead of the FundingOrganization class, but that will be difficult using Karma since each column can only map to one class.

+You will need a new column for the vivo:AdminRole uri. You’ll also need a uri for vivo:PricipalInvestigatorRole, but you could use the PIID you already have.

+The diagram appears to omit the award amount. This should be a literal attached to vivo:Grant with the predicate vivo:totalAwardAmount (http://vivoweb.org/ontology/core#totalAwardAmount).

+You assign each date to a vivo:DateTimeValue via vivo:dateTime, then connect them to the vivo:dateTimeInterval with the object property vivo:start and vivo:end. It’s shown on the chart in the grey boxes, but a little confusing since it doesn’t show where the actual date connects. You need to attach the literal 'http://vivoweb.org/ontology/core#yearMonthDayPrecision'
+ to each datetimevalue via vivo:dateTimePrecision.

+I’d also suggest formatting the date in your original spreadsheet so VIVO plays nice. This is the format: “YYYY-MM-DDT00:00:00”
