Create a generic point of need link that can be shown on the timeline to indicate action needs to be taken by users to improve their experience.
In the notification space we believe that impactful notices will include:
Turning on notifications when they're off in DMs
Turning off notifications for large rooms/high traffic community rooms/low priority...
This would be web first as it's an experiment and may be more complex than is necessary on a hand-held device.
We think that also including the notification settings at the top of a room will help to clarify for users why they might be experiencing higher or lower than expected volumes of notifications.
It's important that we design and build these banners in a way where they're reusable for other content when we expand this feature but not aggressive or annoying. We should have guardrails so that banners do not compete for time over each other - and how we organise the severity (like crypto messages should come before notification suggestions) Danielle will look into this...
Use cases
I'm a new Element user and I'm learning how Notifications work on this app. All rooms I join default to "All messages" and knowing that will help me to customise my notification experience
I'm creating a room/joining a room with others and I want to know up-front what the notification settings are for me and whether I should change them or not
Either by knowing how many messages this room gets
Or, by knowing other info, EG: this is a low prio room, or a favourite etc.
