This is complicated to explain to anyone who don't live in any of the affected countries, but Netflix has a very strange feature (Intended by Netflix's devs themselves) wherein
very specific (but very often also default) combos of countries and user languages will result in Netflix only showing results for shows with that language, making e.g. English shows with English text unplayable. The supposed official list is explained at https://help.netflix.com/en/node/117967/gb (May require being logged out or using a private tab to view correctly).
An example is Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City (Not to be confused with 2 recent specials that are far more widely available). I'm residing in Norway, and the outcomes of specific combos are:
• User language: Norwegian Bokmål + Country: Norway: Claims to not be playable, and doesn't show up in searches or in My List.
• User language: Danish + Country: Norway: Playable.
• User language: Norwegian Bokmål + AdGuard VPN set to Manchester UK: Playable.
As I am not willing to betray the Norwegian language that I've grown up and done lots of translation work for, I've struggled to figure out how to modify (Not block) Netflix's inline script that determines locales, and now need help from super-experts.
The script looks like this, to varying extents:
So, there are two approaches I'm seeing, that will allow me to see English untranslated media, in Norway, with the user language set to Norwegian, without VPN:
"language":"nb-NO"
→"language":"nb-DK"
"id":"nb-NO"
→"id:"en-NO"
I've tried these entries in My Filters so far and failed:
There must be something I've missed, and/or what the documention could have missed. I'm hoping for world-elite tier pros to give me tips on it.
Should a fix be found, it'd be a major candidate for inclusion in uBlock Filters Annoyances, albeit with separate entries for each affected country.
