Show Files/Attachments as Column

We can upload Files within a record (whether Standard or Custom), but there's no way to display these files in a column.

The data model represents Files as a one-to-many relation between the Object and the "Attachments" table:

So similar to how Notes and Tasks are displayed as a one-to-many relation inline (see below screenshot), Files/Attachments can likewise be displayed inline. But Files aren't contained in the filter dropdown:

Even using the filename as the title would work great, but the ability to display a thumbnail image preview inline would be even more helpful. This way the user can click into each File to preview it from within an object view.
