Summer of Code programs and short-term internships within and beyond the Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) world. Some of these are open to ALL programmers and (non)technical folks, so you need not be a student to participate.

- Program:: The Julia Summer of Code (JSoC) is similar in scope and nature to that of GSoC. It is open to anyone willing to commit three months to a project, although preference will be given to students. - Program:: Gnome's Outreachy Program for Women is run and funded by the Gnome Foundation and various sponsors. More details are available at their wiki and the OPW website.
- Diversity:: Open to women and those who identify as one.
- FinAid:: Compensation is similar to GSoC - US$5500.00
- TimeLine:: It changes each year, so do track their announcements.
- Program:: Google Summer of Code is an annual internship program that is open to people of all genders from around the world, hence highly competitive.
- Diversity:: Open to all genders.
- FinAid:: US$5500.00 upon successful completion.
- TimeLine:: May to August of each year, but do track their site for announcements.
- Program:: Rails Girls Summer of Code for Ruby-related projects.
- Diversity:: Open to women and those who identify as one.
- FinAid:: Offers full-time scholarships for 3 months to women who can work on FOSS projects, regardless of which part of the world they live in.

- Program:: The largest collection of libraries for computational protein structure prediction and design is offering undergraduate student internships for the summer of 2015.
- Diversity:: Open to all genders.
- FinAid:: The Rosetta Commons and the sponsoring lab will provide housing, travel expenses up to $500, and a stipend of $4,500.
