Volume and Brightness Widgets not updating

Hi,

I'm using awesome on NixOS and noticed that neither volume nor brightness widgets update themselves. The only way to get them to update is restarting awesome. Interstingly the popup on hover shows the current values, e.g.:

As you can see, volume is at 71%, the widget still shows about 25%. Changing volume via the widget itself (mouse wheel up/down) does not update it either.

I saw in

awesome-wm-widgets/pactl-widget/volume.lua

Lines 221 to 228 in df6bc4a

that there's a timer which is supposed to update. I manually set refresh_rate to 2, but that didn't help either.

Can anyone help me find the issue?
