Experience with very large websites?

do any of you have experience with building very large websites that have to be built from 70,000 or more individual md files? I would be very grateful for an exchange of experiences.

Thanks for asking. Could you elaborate on the case you're trying to build? We'd be interested to learn more about the specifics, so we can give you better recommendations and learn where we can improve.

Thank you for your answer. We have not yet set up a project with MkDocs, but we have considerable problems with other SSGs even with smaller data volumes (20,000 md files). We would therefore like to find out in advance whether there are any MkDocs users who have already had experience with building very large websites. The ability to build large websites is a mandatory requirement for us because we have to publish large reference works.

We are aware of this problem and are actively working on it as part of our current foundational work, making it easier to scale SSGs to tens of thousands of sites. If you're working on a commercial case (in an enterprise setting), we'd be happy to talk to you as part of an enterprise call to better learn about your requirements. Other than that, there's currently no solution that scales while being flexible and easy to use. That's why we're working on it.

As a further note: MkDocs is currently not equipped to handle more than a few thousands files while keeping build times at a reasonable level, as it was not designed for this case. However, this will change soon with us progressing.
