We are missing a keyboard short-cut to switch between the current and the last
active editor file.

This would be very useful.

In Eclipse you can use + and + to achieve this.

What is working already is + and ++ to
switch to the next and last file as shown in the tabs, but that is not
sufficient. A history function that takes into account which files
where open in which order is needed.

It would be cool to have it but we don't have time to implement it right now. Probably for 2.3

I think this was fixed by #4302 (Ctrl+Tab change to the last open file)
