Hi! I'm Dale, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. 😃

In my spare time I have been building mt32-pi, a baremetal Roland MT-32 emulator that runs on the Raspberry Pi series of single-board computers.

The goal is to build an inexpensive alternative to the original device, so that vintage gaming enthusiasts can enjoy the authentic soundtracks to their favourite games on MS-DOS, Sharp X68000, and other retro platforms.

For some time now, we've been able to use Linux and Munt to do this, but by bringing Munt to baremetal, we can benefit from lower latency, tighter timings, and a more 'appliance-like' end product that's ready to make music within mere seconds of being powered on, just like the real thing!

mt32-pi is already usable and being enjoyed by vintage gaming enthusiasts around the world, but with your help, I can:

  • Continue improving, testing, and responding to bug reports and feature requests.
  • Purchase additional electronic components to add support for them and prototype new features such as a physical control panel.
  • Purchase popular complementary hardware that I don't yet own such as the MiSTer so that I can work towards ensuring perfect compatibility and deliver the best MT-32 solution for these devices.

I also help maintain MilkyTracker, the cross-platform FastTracker II-compatible music tracker enjoyed by hundreds of chiptune artists and musicians who prefer to produce their music the old-school way!

Your sponsorship will also help me keep the domain name renewed, and encourage me to respond to bug reports and pull requests so that we can keep MilkyTracker working well for years to come.

Programming and electronics are my greatest passions, and with your support, I can invest more of my spare time into working on these projects and more.
