Bug description

When opening the app either after killing it, while in the background or from a notification it often hangs for long periods on either the logo or the messages screen, only sometimes proceeding to then function normally. iOS is otherwise killing the app if it doesn't respond for too long. Once working it's fine unless you switch out the app.

Steps to reproduce

  • install iOS 18.2 Public Beta 2
  • Open signal (any way)
  • 90% of the time it hangs for long periods

Actual result: It hangs and sometimes recovers but is also often killed by the OS

Expected result: it opens quickly and displays the messages pane or the message relating to a notification you clicked.

To follow up on this, the logs show that Apple is killing the app because a process is taking too long. I also see the same issue with Discord. I suspect it's related to background network access.

I'm seeing something similar with the App Store. When you manually click update all, then go back to browse or search for apps then it also becomes unresponsive.

I'm hoping this is an os level issue that's affecting apps in this case.
