As a security measure, please include option in "privacy settings" to hide profile picture for selected contacts and all current and future contacts on signal/phone contacts.

Isn't this already there afaik ? Signal already hides profile picture until you send a first message to your new contact.

May be, However, the feature request is about hiding the profile pic even after sending the first message. And hiding need to be with options of (i) hide to all current and future contacts (ii) hide to all except specified contacts.

One workaround for now is to add generic pictures to your contacts on your phone, so your contacts' profile pictures don't come through. Your custom photos will override their profile pictures.

Workaround might work, however, signal being one of the trusted secured messaging applications, it would be nice to have the requested feature as it will greatly help users like me. Thanks.

@pavangayakwad Would you mind providing a little more context as to your scenario? Why is this so important to you? It's a really strange thing, given that no message text or contact names are hidden, just the profile picture.

@scottnonnenberg all contacts in our phone are not all friends or close friends, some are business contacts, some are random numbers for some quick calls and if they are using signal application as well, and sometimes they might message me on signal too instead of connecting me over my other messaging apps (like whatsapp..telegram..etc) I definitely would not want to share my profile pic which sometimes has my family photo or my wife or kids or my pets or my home photo. For generic messaging I use other messaging apps and signal is something i use it for family members conversation and it would be great if I have better control on what to share on signal.

Okay, so to be very clear: you're NOT talking about hiding your contacts' profile pictures in the UI in Signal Desktop. And you are talking about finer-grained control for who to share your profile with?

yes, As you suggested, It would be even nicer if we can control complete signal profile (including signal profile name and signal profile photo) both on mobile and desktop versions.
