Hi

Regarding the Windows version:

  1. Password lock of the app would be nice.
  2. Portable version would be nice.
  3. Tray icon and X minimise would also be nice.

Thanks
A

You can try out the tray option (in beta) with the --use-tray-icon command line argument.

Can you tell me more about why you feel that a password lock would be useful for you? What problem are you trying to solve with that?

I think a password lock would be nice too. Not sure why putting a lock on a messenger app needs to be explained though

Agreed! Password for desktop app would be much appreciated. I have signal desktop on a few pcs in the home including a "common" multimedia pc and I would like signal to NOT immediately open on that PC after the app is started by someone other than me. I have no plan to use multiple PC profiles to try to hide the app from other users. The last thing I ever want to do is depend on Windows for security.

Well often times I use Signal on different devices around my home and I'm not the only user (e.g. TV, Windows "server" for home use) so you know. Same would go for a much anticipated portable version. More security.

I am hoping for password lock feature of the Windows desktop app as well - and I'm also surprised you don't see it as an obvious thing.
For me, Signal is a secure place. I love how it requires authentication upon opening on my iPhone - even though iPhone is already relatively secure (compared to a Windows PC for sure)! It is great that I can use it on my PC as well, but I really feel like I sacrifice all the security by using it there. It is even worse than other apps I guess because I cannot even "sign out". Something like authentication by phone would be great or if this complicates stuff a simple password encryption would be enough (you're not forced to use it if you're afraid you'll forget it).

Besides, do you remember the ancient times like 10 years ago when most people had one computer per house? Every messenger app had profiles and separate logins and passwords (even something called like one-time-session when you logged in for few minutes during IT class). Now, I guess everyone moved to "personal" devices, but more functionality is better than worse.

If you'd like to talk about this feature, please use the forums: https://whispersystems.discoursehosting.net/

I'm locking this issue since we have enough information about the desired feature.
