Summary

For the major english system fonts such as SF Pro, Segoe UI, Roboto/Google Sans (ios/macos, windows, android/chromebook)

Match line-heights, ascenders, 100 - 900 weights, etc on average of these

This way font will appear to "fit" better when used multilingually
