I see no logic in selecting the latest in either GLX or WGL code. We just don't request any version, hence Default fits better.

I noticed that OSX does try the latest (4.1 core).

It's a problem with the GLX/WGL implementations, not with the way it's named.
PR #407 does that correctly with EGL.
