consider both client-side and server-side.

given the current scale of help.rerobots.net and the fact that at the time of this comment it is

  • purely static, and
  • only written in the natural language American English,

the best choice is Lunr (also, on GitHub). A popular example of tools for building documentation where Lunr is included is MkDocs.

The most significant and relevant limitation is that it does not have extensive support of natural languages, but note that support for Chinese is coming soon.

Eventually, motivated by scale and natural language support, switch to Solr.

consider elasticlunr.js (also on GitHub) because it is competitive with Lunr
