Supplying a username for authenticating with a NuGet feed on Azure DevOps

The docs state that one needs to supply a username matching the user of the PAT when setting up a hostRule for using NuGet feeds hosted on Azure DevOps.

I believe this to be false.
Any username will work just fine, as it is ignored, i.e. the following will do:

    {
      hostType: 'nuget',
      matchHost: 'https://pkgs.dev.azure.com/chefsculinar/',
      username: 'user',
      password: '<PAT'>
    },

I painfully tested this, and my claim is also in line with Microsoft's docs on using a PAT.

There is also several samples on the web and in these github discussions that point to this being the case.

I might have done that if I was 100% sure, but while troubleshooting my issues I stumbled across this thread and #29987.
Seeing that people put some effort into changing it from what I believe to be correct, I fear there is something that I am missing or some specific circumstances that require one or the other.
