We don't use Snaps either and are not maintaining or updating it. nathanhaines (hopefully still) does that and they contributed the required metadata upstream.
I think that the project should focus on the few distribution formats the maintainers are actually using. Currently that's GitHub, NPM and Telnet.
All other formats may be packaged and distributed by someone else (yay, it's open source).
Even if we went through the process of learning how to package and maintain a .deb, you couldn't just apt install it, because those packages in your repository come from your distro maintainers.
I mean, I'd love to see some distros to package Mapscii.
I don't use snap and wouldn't want to as well as others. If someone could make a .deb, it would be great.
