Kind of unconventional because it's more just using a glitch but you can enable the A/B iosEnableShortsPlayerSplitViewController and it will cause the buttons to not show up... it's what I've been using because I really hate the buttons on the YouTube shorts as well...

Um, never thought this could be useful. Perhaps I should add an option to hide uYou’s buttons using this flag...

Added in v18.08.1-2.3.1 or higher.
