In the Configuration section of the documentation, an "Important Note" states, "This plugin overrides the data_file and parallel options of coverage. Unless you also run coverage without pytest-cov it’s pointless to set those options in your .coveragerc."
However, setting "data_file" in the coverage configuration file does have the desired effect per #145.
