As a side note I think that we should never ever trust dependabot without manual tests.

Personally I do trust tools like dependabot and renovate, if we have enough tests. I mean it worked with out tests, but we didn't check how the dependencies worked out at HA. (Like, there are only some libraries we have to watch out for)

This is not a long term solution because it forces people to use an unsupported paho-mqtt version that will gradually become incompatible with other dependencies projects have.
