I'm quoting personal message exchange from @timothyschoen
"one thing that [ffplay~] could do that I somehow broke is streaming audio from online. I might want to try to bring that back, it's kind of cool. You just pass in a web url to "open" and it just works"
[ffplay~] was a prototype and now we have it as [play.file~], so we could also add this feature over there.
Personally, i think the name is confusing for also streaming files, as it is supposed to "play a file", not "stream an mp3". I was recently confused with [readanysf~], that I never used, and I assumed it only did read (any) sound files... but it also streams files as it seems, now that I had a quick look at it.
It'd make better sense to me to have an object that only streams files, like [online.stream~] or something... who can think of a better name?
