It looks like the session fails to come up and just bootloops.

I have pretty much the same issue, has there been any progress on this? It sadly prevents me from logging in...

I've seen some aborts in dmesg with a component of COSMIC, unfortunately I don't remember what exactly but I'll try posting the dmesg output once I have time to look into this.

Hi there.

Having the same exact issue on a clean arch install. I installed arch in a VM using the archinstall script just for testing the cosmic-desktop on arch.

I installed xfce as a default DE just to install guest additions there and check that everything was working.

When enabling the cosmic-greeter.service or trying to start cosmic-session through a TTY, I am having the same issue.

One thing I noticed is that the cosmic-session command works normally when started from a terminal in Gnome (I didn't try to launch it through xfce), and will launch the cosmic-desktop in a window

The error it throws when starting from a TTY is the following :

ERROR panic: thread 'main' panicked at 'failed to kill program: Custom { kind: InvalidInput, error: "invalid argument: can't kill an exited process" }': /build/.cargo/git/checkouts/launch-pad-9fd9facbb782b0f4/1aa34f2/src/lib.rs:399

Update: the error is known and a PR has been created in the launch-pad repository PR
