Problem

pr-review mention listener: send force_review=true for a trusted human comment mention, so the documented @donpetry-bot break-glass works again

From the issue: A maintainer's @donpetry-bot comment on a PR no longer makes pr-review review it. The documented human break-glass is dead on every channel.

Risk

Medium — changes GitHub Actions workflow behavior, which is exercised only post-merge; verify via the affected workflow runs.

Test plan

Tests added/updated: test/workflows/pr-review-mention/force-review.bats. Verification: bash scripts/dev-lead-lint.sh (shellcheck --severity=warning) ran pre-commit; the bats suite runs in CI.

Rollback

Revert this PR. No non-revertible side effects (no tags, migrations, or external state).

Monitoring

Watch the affected workflow run(s) in the Actions tab and this PR's Lint check for regressions.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Trusted human mentions in eligible issue and review comments can now trigger a forced review-agent dispatch. Comments from untrusted authors, bot accounts, or containing automation markers do not trigger a dispatch; pull-request events continue to use a plain review.
    • If the workflow’s tooling is unavailable, it sends a plain review instead. Unsupported events are skipped.

📝 Summary

Walkthrough

The change adds a shell decision helper for force-review eligibility and wires it into the reusable workflow. Eligible trusted-human comments add force_review=true to the dispatch. Review requests and marked comments remain plain reviews; unsupported or untrusted events do not dispatch.

Changes

Force-review dispatch

Layer / File(s) Summary
Define force-review eligibility
.github/scripts/pr-review-mention/lib/force-review.sh, test/workflows/pr-review-mention/force-review.bats
The helper returns a verdict based on event type, author association, author login, and comment markers. Tests cover force, plain, and no-dispatch outcomes, including shell metacharacters in input.
Apply verdict to workflow dispatch
.github/workflows/pr-review-mention-reusable.yml, test/workflows/pr-review-mention/force-review.bats, .github/workflows/pr-review-mention-tests.yml
The workflow checks out the helper on a best-effort basis, passes comment data to it, and uses its verdict to choose whether to dispatch. Forced dispatches include the boolean force_review=true; other dispatches include only the PR URL. Tests cover the trigger step and workflow wiring, and the test workflow adds coverage for the helper and its script path.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to c7147

The change restores trusted-human force-review dispatch and looks safe to merge. One test uses a shared temp path that could make CI flaky, so it is worth a quick fix.

Code Review

This pull request introduces a new bash script force-review.sh to determine whether a pull request review should be forced based on event types, author associations, and automation markers, along with a comprehensive suite of BATS tests in force-review.bats. The review feedback recommends explicitly asserting [ "$status" -eq 0 ] immediately after running commands in several BATS test cases to ensure failures are caught cleanly before checking the command output.

CodeAnt PR Risk: Low Risk

  • The PR appears safe to merge; forced reviews are limited to trusted, non-bot comments without automation markers.
  • Tooling checkout failures fall back to a plain review dispatch, and tests cover the decision rules and dispatch wiring.

No description provided.

The 'wiring: comment body reaches the trigger step via env' test was missing
an explicit [ "$status" -eq 0 ] assertion after the 'run tt_step_run' command,
which SonarQube flagged as a code quality issue. Added the assertion to ensure
the command succeeds before checking output.

Fixed in test/workflows/pr-review-mention/force-review.bats: added missing status assertion [ "$status" -eq 0 ] after the 'run tt_step_run' command on line 226, which SonarQube flagged as a code quality issue.

dev-lead is withholding action on this item.

It is labeled needs-human-review (flagged for human review — this label is applied by automation as well as by people, so an item can become held without anyone noticing), so dev-lead will not pick it up while that label is present. This notice is posted once so the withhold is visible rather than looking like a stalled run.

To re-enable automated pickup: remove the needs-human-review label.

Automated review — escalated to human

The automated review cascade escalated this PR to a human reviewer at review cycle 0/3 (risk: HIGH, reviewed commit bcd31f774e165efc43cb17f19f7ebef4230a6710).

Why: the cascade could neither approve the PR nor auto-request fixes, so it requested human review via CODEOWNERS and set the needs-human-review label. A human should review the PR, or remove the needs-human-review label to re-engage the automated cascade.

Reviewer summary: The implementation matches issue #1281 and has no injection or credential-handling defects. Comment fields reach the shell through env, the tooling is checked out from the reusable's own pinned SHA with persist-credentials: false, and automation markers can only downgrade a request, never upgrade it. The PR still cannot be auto-approved. It re-enables FORCE_REVIEW, which the consumer in .github-private documents as bypassing every review gate, including ci-failing, ci-pending, advisory and maintainer gates. The force is keyed only on author_association, so any org MEMBER or COLLABORATOR can trigger it, read-only collaborators included, and so can agents that post as the owner without a marker. The CI_WEAKENING hard-stop is set. The head moved from the audited SHA bcd31f7 to 766aa15, a trivial and equivalent change, but most required checks on the new head are still queued. A human maintainer should sign off on this trust boundary in a reusable consumed by 8 repos.

This note is updated in place on re-escalation; it is not re-posted.
