It would also be good to ensure that we support CommonMark rather than just basic Markdown. |

The use of lightweight markup languages with their simple, unobtrusive syntax is almost universally admired by the open source community. Since they are easy to read and write, and today to plug into a variety of software contexts, we often see them used for documentation of hackathon projects - starting with the "README" files of most open source projects. They can also be used for publication of notes, books, and more.
Until now DRIBDAT has only supported the most popular Markdown syntax, has a number of drawbacks when compared to Asciidocs or Mediawiki. Through the Sync function we can connect external platforms on which any other syntax can be used, but we should also consider supporting other syntaxes. Any ideas of how to proceed here, good examples from other applications, are welcome.
Thanks to Christian Heitzmann for the discussion at Open Education Days 2023 that prompted this idea.
