Https difficulties

I've got a call: var client = new Colyseus.Client('ws://localhost:2567'); within a page server using https via ngninx. I've tried

1. nearly every option within the default nginx site
2. using wss instead of ws
3. using the domain instead of localhost, both colyseus and the page are on the same server
4. the set up works with http but, of course, I don't want that for general consumption
5. tried with Chrome and Firefox (which had some https bugs)

It seems to hit here in HTTP.ts, for each thing I try:

I'm aware that there's a little discussion about this, here and there but grateful for any help/solution!
