Expected behaviour

Wheel builds and installs on alpine Linux with python 3.11 installed.

Actual behaviour

Building wheel fails because numpy 1.21.2 is not compatible with python 3.11.

Steps to reproduce

Using Docker:

ARG TARGETPLATFORM=linux/arm64
FROM --platform=$TARGETPLATFORM python:3.11-alpine
RUN pip install --upgrade pip
RUN apk update && apk add --no-cache build-base gcc python3-dev musl-dev libffi-dev g++ linux-headers make

RUN pip install numpy
RUN pip install opencv-python-headless

docker build -t alpine-python-311-opencv .

Notes

  • If you're not on an arm64/aarch64 system, you might need to use buildkit (docker buildx build) to reproduce.
  • this happens with either headless or regular versions.
  • by default, pip install numpy installs numpy==1.24.2 right now. If you try to pin it to pip install numpy==1.21.2 then the same error occurs:
        ERROR: Ignored the following versions that require a different python version: 1.21.2 Requires-Python >=3.7,<3.11; 1.21.3 Requires-Python >=3.7,<3.11; 1.21.4 Requires-Python >=3.7,<3.11; 1.21.5 Requires-Python >=3.7,<3.11; 1.21.6 Requires-Python >=3.7,<3.11
Issue submission checklist
  • This is not a generic OpenCV usage question (looking for help for coding, other usage questions, homework etc.)
  • I have read the README of this repository and understand that this repository provides only an automated build toolchain for OpenCV Python packages (there is no actual OpenCV code here)
  • The issue is related to the build scripts in this repository, to the pre-built binaries or is a feature request (such as "please enable this additional dependency")
  • I'm using the latest version of opencv-python

Thanks for the report. The same issue is reproducible with x86 docker image too.
